Philosophy of education: In 1976 I composed a maxim for my classes: This is your life, this is your world. Make it a thing of beauty and a joy forever. Open your eyes, ears, mind and heart. Live, learn, discover, love. Be happy. Times were much simpler then, teaching more straight forward, and values were important to education. So much has changed since then, and continues to change rapidly, due in large part to technology, media, globalization, heavy workloads and overwhelming options for living life. I wouldn't go so far as to state that as my philosophy of teaching today, but I do profess to motivate and to challenge each individual student to discover for him/herself all that a particular subject and course of study has to offer -- to develop holistically as a person and to involve one's self in our world, however great or small, according to one's unique vocation and circumstance -- and to do so with compassion for the common good of all.
