Dr. Shaffer's research interests include Physiological Ecology of vertebrate animals, espcially birds and mammals. His expertise includes the use of doubly labeled water for detemining field metabolic rates and water flux as well as the application of novel micro-processor based technologies (i.e. data logging tags) to measure behavior and physiology in the field.
