I've been at SJSU since 1990, with one year at Ohio University. I was elected Chair of the Communication Studies Department in December 2009 and Chair of the University Council of Chairs and Directors in 2010. My research, teaching, and service generally focus on applied communication, as with organizational communication, disability studies, and internet communication. For the past 12 years, I've taught nearly all my classes online; my in person classes integrate online components as well. The second edition of my public speaking text with Wadsworth, Public Speaking: The Evolving Art, Enhanced 2nd edition, was published in January 2012. Recently, Ted M. Coopman and I signed a contract with Wadsworth for a survey of communication text tentatively titled The Evolving Art of Human Communication.
