Common Reasons Why Applications Are Deemed Ineligible
Applications may be deemed ineligible and removed from further review for reasons including, but not limited to, the following:
-
Failure to meet the minimum GPA requirement without documentation of acceptable GPA remediation.
-
Grades below the required “B” minimum in prerequisites without evidence of successful remediation.
-
Failure to complete the Technical Standards Acknowledgement.
-
Incomplete application materials or missing required documentation.
Failure to follow application instructions, submission procedures, and other required application processes will result in points deduction during the Selection Committee’s scoring phase.
Applicants must maintain a valid trainee license throughout the application and selection process. Applicants with an expired license are not eligible to continue through the application process. This could result in not being invited to interviews or not being available to be matched with a training site. Do not allow your trainee license to expire.
Applicants are required to complete the Application Readiness Assessment and carefully review these requirements before proceeding.
Initial Interview
After the scoring process is completed, the highest-ranked applicants (typically approximately 60–70 applicants) will be invited to participate in a virtual interview with the SJSU Clinical Laboratory Science (CLS) Department. As we receive large numbers of highly-qualified applicants to our training program, this first round interview is meant to gauge the fit of applicants with our training program. What we are most interested in is hearing about who you are, your educational and career path thus far, why you are interested in the clinical laboratory, and why you feel you'd be successful (similar to the narrative you provided in your personal statement). You will also have the chance to address any questions you may have to the admissions team.
Training Site Interview
After the initial interview is completed, selected applicants will be invited to participate in on-site affiliate visits and interviews with clinical training sites.
-
Each affiliate conducts its own interview;
-
Affiliates determine whom they wish to rank;
-
Applicants have the opportunity to learn about the affiliate and ask questions.
