Our Bachelor's Degree in Nursing ADN to BSN Concurrent Enrollment Program is a joint program between rural or local community colleges and the SJSU Valley Foundation School of Nursing. This innovative program enables select nursing students to advance their education and careers while continuing to live and serve in their home communities.

How to Apply

 

General Requirements

  • Transfer no more than 70 semester units or 105 quarter units from an institution which does not offer bachelor’s degrees or tier equivalents (i.e community colleges). No more than 90 semester or 135 quarter units may be transferred into the university from all sources.

  • Complete all four CSU-approved general education requirements with a grade C- or higher.

    • (A1) Oral Communication/Speech

    • (A2) Written English Composition

    • (A3) Critical Thinking/Logic

    • (B4) Math/Quantitative Reasoning

  • Have an overall grade point average of 2.0 or better.

Program-Specific Requirements

  • Applicants must remain concurrently enrolled in an Associate's in Nursing program to participate in the Rural CEP Program.

  • Applicants must have already completed or are currently taking the 4 prerequisite courses by the time they are applying to the program:

    • CHEM 30A - Introduction to Chemistry-Inorganic (or general chemistry equivalent)

    • COMM 20/COMM 96PS - Public Speaking

    • CSU GE Area A3 - Critical Thinking

    • STAT 95 - Elementary Statistics

  • Further eligibility details are available through the affiliated community colleges' nursing programs.

Out-of-State Eligibility

  • This program is only available to select students who are also enrolled at one of our partner community colleges. Current partners include De Anza College and Hartnell College, with more partner colleges to be added soon.

  • International students are not eligible.

Graduation Requirement

Complete all CSU Lower Division General Education requirements.

The Rural CEP program only admits for Summer terms. If selected for the Rural CEP, you will receive instructions on how and when to apply to the university for summer term.

You must be enrolled in an ADN program with one of SJSU’s partnered community colleges and work directly with your community college to be selected for the program. If selected for the Rural CEP, you will receive instructions from your community college on how to apply to SJSU via Cal State Apply.

Valuable Learning Experiences

Students admitted to this program will be able to enroll at SJSU and their community college concurrently in order to complete an Associate Degree in Nursing (70 units), apply and sit for the National Council Licensure Examination for Nurses (NCLEX-RN) (20 units), and complete post licensure nursing content and upper division general education courses (30 units) to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

  • The program runs over two summers and one fall semester so that you can finish your ADN and BSN in 2.5 years.
  • All theory courses are online and scheduled to enhance your Associates Degree in Nursing program.
  • A community health clinical in your local area is required to meet CA Public Health Nursing certification requirements.
