Bio

Ching Ching Tan earned her M.A. in Communication Studies in 2015 and is currently pursuing her M.F.A. in Creative Nonfiction from San Jose State University. She completed her B.A. in International Studies - Linguistic from University of California, San Diego in 2011. Professor Tan is a proud immigrant from China who studied ESL in community colleges before transferring to UCSD. She embraces her linguistic identity to teach public speaking for English learners and to create literary work around the subject of language and identity. She also teaches interpersonal communication and autoenthnography.

Professor Tan has received several grants and awards both in- and outside the University. Most recently, she received 23/24 RSCA SEED Grant for her memoir NATURALIZED. 

Professor Tan led study abroad programs in Guangzhou, China (2019, 2020) and in Jyväskylä, Finland (2017). She has been a speech consultant for student leaders for Silicon Valley Women In Engineering Conferences in the past two years.
