Bio

Leslye M. Tinson is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in private practice, a Senior Lecturer of Psychology and African American Studies at San Jose State University, and an associate professor (adjunct) at Evergreen Valley College. She has been teaching at SJSU since 2015. Her teaching focuses in the areas of child and adult clinical psychology, Black mental health, racism, prejudice, and gender studies. Originally from Compton, CA, she is a passionate instructor, mentor and student organization advisor. She is also lecturer of psychology and counseling at San Francisco State University and has taught at several community colleges in the Bay Area. 

Tinson is a member of the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists, the American Psychological Association, the Association of Black Psychologists, and the American Educational Research Association. In 2019, Tinson was reappointed by Governor Gavin Newsom to the California Private Security Disciplinary Review Committee (North), after serving a 4-year appointment by Governor Jerry Brown, and has chaired the committee since 2018. Tinson earned a Master of Science degree in clinical psychology from SFSU and recently completed her doctoral degree in educational leadership. Her research focuses on Black women in the professoriate. She resides in Santa Clara with her beloved dog, Captain Charlie Mac.
