English 1A

Time: Monday/Wednesday
Location: Engineering 338

Description

Course Description: English 1A is the first course in the SJSU two-semester lower-division composition sequence; it provides an introduction to baccalaureate-level composition, with attention to the personal voice and personal experience, on the one hand, and the more formal attitudes and demands of writing at the university (expository and argumentative essays), on the other.
Students will develop college-level reading abilities, rhetorical sophistication, and writing styles that give form and coherence to complex ideas and feelings. Grammar will not be a major component of the class content, but it is a major component of essay grades. In other words, very little time will be devoted to learning grammar.

English 1A is an interesting course allowing students to express themselves, develop an understanding of other cultures, explore relationships, and communicate with the larger community around them.

Course Documents

The 1st assignment is based on--Meta-cognition The 2nd assignment is an analysis of "Pedagogy of the Oppressed--Banking concept of Education" For your third assignment, choose the article in your major--there is even one for undeclared (but the file is too large--although only 9 pages--so post) I will send the undeclared article to the students in that group by email. Sorry about that.
