I've been at SJSU since 1990, teaching some or all of my classes online since 1999. My research, teaching, and service generally focus on applied communication, as with organizational life, games and play, and new media. In October 2016, Dr. Ted Coopman, four SJSU undergraduate students, and I presented a two-part workshop at the International Academic Conference on Meaningful Play on researching play and games, First Person Researcher. The fourth edition of my public speaking text with Cengage, Public Speaking: The Evolving Art, was published in January 2017. Recently, Joy Hart (executive director of the honors program at the University of Louisville) and I signed a contract with the University of California Press for a business communication text, Communicating for Business and the Professions. The first faculty member in my department to teach online, I've conducted numerous workshops and training sessions in online pedagogy. And if you like my avatar, go Build Your Wild Self.
