Colin Johnson, chair of hospitality management, recently presented a keynote address on enhancing the role of small and medium enterprises in global value chains at an international conference held in Korea by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development. The theme of this year's conference, hosted by the Korean Ministry of Culture and Tourism, was "Global Tourism Growth: A Challenge for SMEs." The conference explored the dynamics and new business models of the tourism enterprises and encouraged an exchange of views on policies and initiatives accompanying structural changes in tourism. Contact Johnson at cjohnson@casa.sjsu.edu.Alejandro Garcia, professor of physics, has co-organized a workshop on "Direct Simulation Monte Carlo: Theory, Methods and Applications," held in Santa Fe, NM, this week. Helen Kress, assistant professor of secondary education, will discuss her research and evaluation of the multicultural aspects of NASA's pre-college, K-12 programs for teachers and students, at the King Library on Wednesday, Sept. 28, from 7 to 9 p.m. Kress conducted her research with a Summer 2005 Faculty Fellowship at NASA-Dryden, Edwards Air Force Base, in Southern California.
