Andrew Wood, professor of communication studies, has been named Outstanding Alumnus by the Ohio University School of Communication Studies, where he received both his master's and doctorate degrees. Wood will be flown to his alma mater next month to receive the honor and to present a talk on his research.Two civil and environmental engineering professors Kurt McMullin and Rameshwar Singh were honored at the College of Engineering awards banquet, which celebrated the college's 60-year anniversary. McMullin was awarded the Applied Materials Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching; Singh, the McCoy Family Faculty Award for Excellence in Service. In addition, Ben Rashid, information technology consultant for the college, received the Onslow H. Rudolph, Jr. Staff Excellence in Service Award. Six students were also honored for their accomplishments in service and academic performance.
Two faculty members and one alumnus received awards from the College of Social Sciences. James Brent, professor of political science, was named the 2006 Meritorious Award winner for his contributions to the department, college and university by serving as part of the Academic Senate. E. Bruce Reynolds, professor of history, is the recipient of the Austen D. Warburton Award of Merit for the highest level of scholarship as shown by the number of his publications and presentations before prestigious professional organizations. In addition, alumnus Leslie C. Francis was honored as the first recipient of the Outstanding Alumnus Award for his achievements in public affairs and advocacy in Washington, D.C.
Scot Guenter, professor of American studies, will be honored for his dedication and support for international education at SJSU by International Programs and Services at its spring banquet this Thursday.
