An SJSU student team is one of the three teams recently selected out of 50 schools to participate in the summer roadtrip program sponsored by Roadtrip Nation, an organization and PBS documentary series dedicated to helping students explore different careers. The SJSU team, Abel Habtegeorgis, a public relations major, Cairo Person, journalism, and Kisura Hendrix, political science, will join the other two teams that hail from Emory University, Atlanta, and Concordia University, Quebec. The three teams will travel for two and a half months this summer in a green RV, and along the way, conduct informational interviews with various community leaders while being filmed for a documentary that will run on PBS next year. According to Anita Manuel, career consultant for SJSU's Career Center, this is indeed an honor, particularly because it's the first time that our students have applied, which involved a one-month competitive application process.

Five SJSU students will be honored this week with Dr. Ernesto Galarza Scholarships at the 21st annual symposium by the same name. Developed by the Chicano/Latino Faculty and Staff Association, the scholarships foster Galarza's scholarly commitment to the Chicano/Latino community by helping students in their pursuit of higher education at San José State.

Helen Stevens, director of international programs and services, reports that more than 100 students have been involved in organizing this week's International Week of Activities. In addition, four students, two of whom are international students and two who are from the study abroad program, will receive the Louie Barozzi Scholarship at the spring banquet. Barozzi, former director of IPS, will present the awards to the students. For the full schedule of activities, see http://www2.sjsu.edu/depts/ipss/calendar/internationalweek_flyer.htm.

A team of eight SJSU honors marketing students is trying its hand at designing a marketing and communications strategy for real world products, Subaru's 2006 Impreza line of cars. San José State was one of 12 universities selected by Subaru to participate in the program, which culminates with the top three teams presenting their campaigns to executives at the car maker’s U.S. headquarters in Cherry Hill, N.J. The SJSU team's strategy included hosting an all-day event at SJSU last week, which showcased the cars and offered free snacks and prizes. Robert Vitale, a College of Business lecturer and honors program coordinator, said the team enticed around 900 individuals to get behind the wheel of the vehicles on display.
