With the advent of its 150th anniversary year just a month away, San José State University has launched a Web resource, www.sjsu.edu/150TH, on SJSU's year-long sesquicentennial celebration, "Where Tradition Meets Tomorrow."

"It is my hope that the site will not only inform people about our many wonderful events, but that it will also surprise, delight and inspire them to participate in our celebration," said Jennifer Cauble, associate vice president of university marketing and communications and chair of the 150th Celebration Committee.

The site offers the latest on SJSU's sesquicentennial events, which include an historical exhibit at the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Library, a symphony concert at the California Theater, and a citywide celebration and academic procession.

A timeline traces SJSU's transition from teacher's college to major metropolitan university. Viewers can read a brief history of SJSU while viewing photos from the university archives or slide their cursor over each photo for more information.

For those who enjoy history from the first-person perspective, there is "My SJSU Memories", where viewers can read the recollections of an alumna and employee who helped train World War II pilots, and then send in their own SJSU memories.

The site also features short biographies of SJSU's 26 presidents, a list of famous alumni and a press room for members of the media. E-mail comments, suggestions and questions to the 150th Celebration Committee at 150th@sjsu.edu.

San José State is Silicon Valley's largest institution of higher learning with 30,000 students and 2,400 faculty and staff members. SJSU is part of the California State University system, the nation's largest senior system of higher education. SJSU's 154-acre downtown campus anchors the nation’s 10th largest city.
