SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Once again, San José State University has excelled in the U.S. News & World Report college rankings. The 2008 edition of "America's Best Colleges," now available at newsstands and online, shows San José State ranked eighth among the West's top public universities offering bachelor's and master's degrees, two places ahead of last year.
"It is so wonderful to see the rankings reflecting the high caliber of our students and programs," said President Don W. Kassing. "The entire university community has worked hard to make San José State one of the nation's very best comprehensive universities."
In addition, the Charles W. Davidson College of Engineering received top marks. Its undergraduate computer and industrial/manufacturing programs placed among the top five in the nation. Compared to last year, the college held its position in the highly competitive computer engineering rankings. The industrial/manufacturing program was not among the top five in 2007.
"I am pleased to see that the Davidson College of Engineering continues to receive top national rankings," said Dean Belle Wei. "This is a testimony to the college's pivotal role in educating new engineers for the dynamic Silicon Valley region and beyond."
The College of Engineering as a whole ceded four places to 16th this year, but remains one of just three California State University campuses to make the top 20 nationwide, with the other two being Cal Polys. More information on the rankings, including criteria.
