Bob Titchenal, head coach of the San Jose State College football team from 1957 through 1964 and team captain of the undefeated 1939 Spartans, died Sunday, July 5, in Santa Rosa. He was 91. Titchenal coached NFL icon Dick Vermeil, and hired a young Bill Walsh as an assistant.

Services will begin at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 19, in the Spartan Memorial Chapel on the SJSU campus. Parking will be available in the university's south (7th Street) and West (4th Street) garages.

In lieu of flowers, the Titchenal family requests donations be made to the following:

  • The National Football League's Caring for Kids program

  • The SJSU Spartan Foundation
