Steps to Apply

Step 1 - Prepare to Apply

  • Prior transcripts: Gather your transcripts from the colleges or universities where you have been enrolled so you can easily enter that information on your application.

  • Admissions requirements: Visit the Admissions section of our website to reivew our admissions requirements, important dates and deadlines, and more.

  • SJSU Online support: Schedule an appointment with our Enrollment Counseling team to discuss your questions, complete an unofficial transcript review, and more. Attend a virtual info session for application and admissions insights and to chat with expert faculty and program coordinators.

Step 2 - Complete Your Application

  • Visit Cal State Apply to begin and submit your application. Watch our video tutorial for steps to guide you through the Cal State Apply process.


Additional Details for Specific Applicants

  • If you are a current SJSU student, you will need to withdraw from your on-campus program and contact our SJSU Online Enrollment Counseling team to complete next steps. Discuss this plan with your current academic advisor before deciding whether to withdraw. Currently enrolled, on-campus Lucas College of Business students are not eligible to transition into the SJSU Online Business Administration program and should meet with their academic advisor to discuss alternative options.

  • If you previously attended a California public college or university, you can find information about transferable courses and articulation agreements on

  • If you are an Amazon employee, visit the Amazon Career Choice website for details about how to utilize that benefit to apply for enrollment at SJSU.

Steps After Applying

Step 1 - Activate Your MySJSU Account

  • You should receive your SJSU ID via email from with the subject line “Activate SJSUOne” shortly after submitting your application. Follow the steps in the email to activate your account, create your password, and activate your DUO two-factor authentication.

  • After you have activated your account, check your MySJSU account regularly for important announcements, "To Do List" items, and to ensure you’re meeting all required deadlines.

Step 2 - View Your Admission Status

Step 3 - Send Your Final Transcripts

  • Send your official, final transcript(s), including grades for any terms you are currently enrolled, no later than the date indicated on the Terms and Conditions sheet you will be sent from SJSU Admissions. Failure to submit your transcript(s) will result in your admission being withdrawn.

Step 4 - Send Your Official Test Scores

  • If you have taken and passed AP, IB, or CLEP exams to satisfy any of the CSU admission requirements, request offical scores be sent to SJSU Admissions.

Steps After Being Admitted

Step 1 - Meet All SJSU Deadlines

  • Reference your MySJSU checklist and submit all transcripts and documents listed on the checklist. If you miss an SJSU deadline, your application will be withdrawn from admission, and you will not be able to attend SJSU for the term you originally intended.

  • If you have an extreme hardship or unusual circumstance that may cause you to miss one of our deadlines, email immediately after reviewing the undergraduate admissions appeals process.

Step 2 - Register for Your SJSU Online Orientation

  • After you are admitted, we will email you an invitation to our self-paced SJSU Online New Student Success online onboarding course so that you can have a successful start to your online experience.

  • We will also email you an invitation to register for a live, online orientation before your classes begin so you can understand the course registration process, learn how to utilize campus resources, and chat with academic advisors, faculty, and students.

Step 3 - Register for Your Classes

  • After you are admitted, we will email you an invite to our self-paced SJSU Online New Student Success online onboarding course, which will contain helpful information about how to register for your courses.

  • We will also provide you with access to our SJSU Online Student Success webpage, which contains important registration and payment deadlines as well as the ability to schedule an appointment with your SJSU Online Student Success Advisor.

Step 4 - Pay Your Tuition and Fees

  • After enrolling, make sure to pay your required fees so that you are not withdrawn from your courses. Check your MySJSU account under "Finances" to see your payment due date.

  • We will also provide you with additional resources regarding how to pay online, accepted methods of payment, installment payment plans, and more.
