Our comprehensive curriculum covers the entire lifespan — from articulation and fluency disorders to swallowing and alternative communication — equipping you for success in pediatric clinics, schools, hospitals and private practices.

Through interactive online course work and supervised clinical training in your local community, you will gain the exact hours, portfolio skills and culturally responsive expertise needed for industry certification.

Accreditation: SJSU is accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation (CAA) of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) and approved by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC).

How to Apply

 
  • Bachelor's degree or post-baccalaureate program in communication disorders and sciences completed from an accredited institution.

  • Minimum overall GPA of 3.0

  • Official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions attended.

  • A professional resume

  • Three letters of recommendation

  • A personal essay

  • 10 hours of observation of licensed and certified SLP.

  • GRE is not required for admission.

Out-of-State Requirements

  • Application opens July 1; deadline of October 1, for Spring admission.

  • Application opens August 1; deadline of January 15 for Fall admission.

Develop your clinical voice while building advanced diagnostic and therapeutic skills through a rigorous, client-focused learning environment. Our specialized program format delivers field-tested experience alongside flexible study:

  • Accumulate over 375 Supervised Hours across at least three distinctly different clinical environments (including school and medical settings) to meet complete national credentialing requirements.
  • Complete Clinical Placements Locally within your own geographic community under the direct guidance of certified local SLP mentors.
  • Choose Your Ideal Culminating Experience Milestone via a comprehensive case-based exam, an applied professional clinical project, or an original faculty-mentored Master’s Thesis track.
