    Description:

The CAL FIRE VIP's of the Santa Clara Unit provide community education and support for the fire department during incidents. Community education activities include staffing fire prevention booths during home shows, Smokey the Bear appearances, wildland property safety inspections, and school visits. Support Activities include staffing fire information telephone lines during major wildland incidents, staffing the Copernicus Fire Lookout on Mt Hamilton, and providing logistical support to the firefighters.

Over the years with the VIP's I have been certified to perform most functions, but my favorite is staffing the Fire Lookout on Mt. Hamilton. From there you can see the entire Bay Area and over into the Central Valley. On clear winter days, you can see Yosemite.
