Bio

Elena Klaw is the Director of the San Jose State University Center for Community Learning and Leadership, and a Professor of Psychology in the Clinical Division. Dr. Klaw received her Ph.D. in Clinical and Community Psychology from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in 1998. After receiving her Ph.D., she completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Center for Health Care Evaluation, Veterans Affairs Palo Alto and served as an Affiliate Scholar at Stanford University's Institute for Research on Women and Gender. Dr. Klaw has published in the areas of mutual-help, mentoring, and peer education and speaks widely about issues related to gender equity, trauma, and the prevention of intimate violence. Her book, Mentoring and Making it in Academe: A Guide for Newcomers to the Ivory Tower is available to order through Amazon.com. She is the faculty adviser of the SJSU chapter of SAVE: Students Against Violence Everywhere and coordinates the Veterans Entering Transition (V.E.T.) project out of the Center for Community Learning & Leadership.
