College of Applied Sciences and Arts is holding its first annual, campus-wide Health and Wellness Week from Nov. 13-17, 2017. This week is designed to spread and increase awareness of healthy lifestyles within the San José State University community. On Wednesday, November 15, Recreation students from Philly's RECL 110 class organized a "5 Ways to Play" activity for SJSU students. Way to go Rec students!! An amazing activity organized by our amazing undergrads...with a little help from Philly and BJ.

Another great meet and greet discussion with recreation industry professionals. Alisa Krinsty (Palo Alto VA) and Regina Maurantonio (City of Campbell Recreation) spoke with SJSU recreation majors about careers and career goals. It was a great discussion, and students learned a lot.
Dr. Miranda Worthen gave a talk entitled "Risk and Protective Behavior Factors for Anger and Violent Behavior in U.S. Military Service Members" in the MLK Jr. Library. Dr. Worthen delivered her remarks to a packed room! Just a small taste of some of the amazing research going on in the Health Science and Recreation Dept!

We had a great panel discussion for SJSU Rec majors. Liz Gonzalez (YMCA of Silicon Valley), Kim Castro (Santa Clara Parks and Rec), and SJSU's own Caryn Collopy (Campus Recreation) talked with students about careers, job opportunities, and internships. A good time was had by all.

Well, another great convocation has come and gone. Spring convocation was a great success as family, friends, and faculty joined together to see off over 100 graduates, plus over a dozen Master's graduates from our MPH program. Congratulations to all of our amazing students! We were joined by Dean Mary Schutten, and Dr. Nooshin Razani from UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital as our guest speaker. If you weren't able to attend, or just want to revisit the joyous occasion, you can click on this link, and watch a recording of the convocation.
Congratulations graduates! We wish you all the best as you move on to the next exciting phase of your lives!
