When it is necessary to determine staff benefit costs for the purpose of expense reimbursement, it is strongly recommended that actual benefit costs for the individual be used. In the case of Faculty Release Time, the University Budget Office annually calculates an average tenured faculty benefit rate. In 2011-12 the benefit rate for faculty and staff is 40%; the benefit rate for temporary faculty is 27.9%.
