Now, you have a good background on the Delta. The Delta is a very important area for our
drinking water, our food (agriculture), and other species. Despite its importance, the Delta is
not in good shape. A weak levee system, a fragile ecosystem, and water pollution are some of the
big problems in the Delta, and they are causing great debate among people as to what to do.
|
Here are possible solutions for the Delta. BUT none of them can solve all problems.
1. Reduced pumping
2. Fish hatchery expansion
3. Gate in west Delta to control salinity in case of levee break.
4. Repair levees.
5. Grow rice on islands.(make islands flooded).
6. Build Peripheral Canal
7. South California/Bay Area develops more ways to get water--Reservoirs/ways to
save water.

| Here are possible stakeholders. There will be BOTH winners and losers regardless of which
solution is pursued.
