How to apply to SJSU

San Jose State University is part of the California State University (CSU) System.
To apply to SJSU, International Applicants (F1/J1 Visas) should:

Please note:

  • failure to submit supplemental documents will result in the delay of processing your application. An instruction sheet is included in the supplemental forms.
  • The U.S. government requires your name on your application and on your passport to be identical.
  • Be sure that all of your academic records and other documents have this name on them. If names differ, please provide evidence of name change, such as a marriage certificate.
  • Complete all questions in detail.
  • Send transcripts, and other supporting documents, as requested, to:

    • All official academic records (transcripts, mark sheets, certificates, diplomas, degrees) must be sent directly from the school(s) you attended in separate sealed envelopes to the Office of Admission.
    • If your institution will not mail original documents, exact copies that have been certified by the appropriate officials must be sent directly to the Office of Admission.
    • Documents in languages other than English must be accompanied by certified English translations by an approved government or school agency. Notarized translations alone will not be accepted. Translations must be word-for-word translations. Please remember to send both transcripts and translations.
    • The TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) or the ELPT (English Language Proficiency Test) is required of all applicants with fewer than three years of full-time study where English is the primary language of instruction.
    • Only scores mailed directly from the Educational Testing Service (ETS) will be accepted. Copies are not acceptable. The institution code for San Jose State University is 4687.
    • Students who have studied in the U.S. must request the registrar from each institution attended to send a transcript of work undertaken at that institution.
