Registration - How, When, Where?

SJSU is utilizing a new student information system to provide improved self-service functionality for all students. Registration will be available through the web or phone (however some of the full self-service features will be available only on the web).

You might not be able to register if you have any holds on your record. It is important that students take care of any holds early before each semester, to be able to register early for classes.

Visit the new SJSU registration information website periodically for updates and self-help tutorials about:

  • How to get your log on information
  • How to log on to My SJSU
  • When to start registering
  • Who Gets Registration Priority
  • The My SJSU site.

Holds

What are holds and why do I have them?

Holds are electronic restrictions on your access to register for classes. SJSU has made it easier to monitor holds so students avoid registration problems. Periodically check your “Holds” online at https://my.sjsu.edu. Follow the instructions on how to clear them.

Some common holds on registration:

  • International Student Insurance
International students on F-1 status must purchased the University approved medical insurance plan bedfore registering for classes each semester.  The insurance hold will not be removed from your MYSJSU record without the insurance purchase.  The University approved health plan can be purchased either at the IPS office or online at www.csuhealthlink.com
  • Tests
You forgot to take the placement test, or it hasn't been scored and recorded yet. Sorry, you've got to clear up the exam first before you may register.
  • Advising
You never saw an advisor- a serious problem if you're an EOP student. Call for an advising appointment.
You're in a department that requires advising every term.
Chemistry, Engineering, Physics and Occupational Therapy majors are in this category.
  • Transcript
You owe us a final transcript or verification of classes. You may lose all of your classes if you fail to turn in these records by the stated deadline.
  • Prerequisites
You didn't take the necessary course to proceed to the next level of instruction. You may be blocked from this course until you show us (or the instructor) that you met the prerequisites.
  • Immunization Holds
As a new student, you will need to provide proof of Measles and Hepatitis B immunization prior to enrollment. If you don't have documentation, go the SJSU Health Center to get your shots and proof of immunizations. Bring the forms to the Student Services Center or fax them to 408-924-2050.

Costs & Fees

Please check MySJSU for fees and payment deadlines. Students will not receive any bills in the mail. Past due fees may result in administrative drop. Dropped classes may not be re-enrolled, and immigration status also will be affected.
