• Your financial aid check will only be    disbursed once BOTH of the following conditions are met:

  1. Classes have begun at SJSU
  2. You are enrolled in and attending classes overseas

  • Please remember that it can take a few weeks longer to receive your    financial aid awards while abroad.  Please plan ahead and take enough funds to get by during the first month until you receive your financial aid disbursement.

SJSU STUDY ABROAD
SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS

  • If you have been awarded a scholarship through the Study Abroad Office, it is your responsibility to contact the Scholarship Coordinator in the Financial Aid Office to discuss  disbursement of your award.  Please note that the scholarship will first be put towards any outstanding balance on your account.

HEALTH INSURANCE

  • You must be covered under the ISEP insurance policy, even if you are insured by your parents or employer.  Please follow the Health Insurance Enrollment Guidelines in your ISEP Participant Placement Acceptance Form (PPAF).

MONEY/MISCELLANEOUS

  • International currency exchange rates are listed in the business sections of most major newspapers.

  • You may look up international currency exchange rates online at http://www.oanda.com/converter/classic

  • You must plan your finances to make sure that you don't run out of money during your year abroad, especially during breaks. You should be aware of what your program includes and what expenses you will have to pay out of your own pocket, so you can plan     accordingly.

  • It is good to carry a small amount of cash in U.S. Dollars for emergencies, but do not carry large amounts of cash.  Please take travelers checks as they are easily replaced if lost or stolen.  Another convenient way is to withdraw cash in the local currency from ATM machines in the host country.  Please check with your bank for charges and procedures.

  • Students are strongly encouraged to give "Power of Attorney" to a trusted parent or relative so they can act on your behalf in financial matters

FINAL ITEMS

  • Please be sure to read through your PPAF packet and your Institutional Information Sheet (IIS).  These packets include important information that you must know before departure.
