Program Overview
The program will take place in June of 2009. This course is designed to introduce students to the socialized medical care system and to provide an opportunity to live and work in a unique cultural environment. Living and studying abroad will provide participants with an opportunity to experience and analyze the differences and similarities between western and socialized health care. The course is a combination of lectures, cultural presentations, group and individual work with faculty, site visits, and community service. Week one will focus on orientation, seminars, and site visits. During week two, students will be placed in an urban (Dublin) or rural setting for peer partnering and community service work. Week three will focus on individual and group reflective activities as well as community service follow up. Seminars and work with faculty will take place on the UCD campus.
