Health Science Minor

Minoring in Health Science is an excellent complement to many SJSU majors, including nursing, psychology, sociology, biology, business, nutrition, human performance, justice studies, and just about any other major that may involve health and human services. The requirements for a Health Science minor are straightforward. To complete your HS minor you must successfully pass:

  • Either HS1 or HS15
  • Any four upper division Health Science of Gerontology courses that suit your educational interests (with approval of a HS advisor)

CHES preparation: A minor in Health Science may be currently used to help qualify for a credential in health education as a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) -- see www.nchec.org/ for details. We recommend the following courses for CHES preparation:

  • An introductory health statistics course (e.g., HS67 or HS167)
  • HS1 or HS15
  • HS104 (Community Health Promotion)
  • HS159 (Health Program Planning)
  • HS161 (Epidemiology)
  • HS162 (Health Care Organization and Administration)
  • Any other upper division HS or GERO course
