SJSU Research Forum

The campus-wide Annual Research Forum will occur in March. Departments nominate their best undergraduate and graduate research and creative projects of the past year academic year. The competition is sponsored by the Office of Graduate Studies and Research.

Nominees should supply the nomination cover sheet (“registration” form attached) and the written summary of the research or creative activity (not to exceed five double-spaced typewritten pages). This is the key to a successful nomination, and faculty mentors or supervisors need to work with the nominee in preparing a clear, succinct summary of the student's research. However, the student should author the written summary. Other materials, such as slides or art work, videos or recordings of video, musical, or theatre performances, should be included if they will be used by the student in presenting his or her work.
The top four nominees from the College will compete in the University Research Forum. They will be expected to make a ten minute oral presentation based on their research or creative activity and will be given three minutes to respond to questions on their work. Presentations in the Humanities and Arts will occur in March before the Graduate Studies and Research Committee and faculty experts within their disciplines. The winners will receive a $500 cash prize. Each winner at the University Forum will attend the CSU system-wide competition.

Departments that have both scholarly and artistic majors may nominate one outstanding undergraduate in each category. Departments with graduate programs in both artistic and scholarly disciplines may also nominate one outstanding student in each category. For more infomation, call Graduate Studies: 408-924-2480.
