A: The Learning Assistance Resource Center's (LARC) tutors will guide you by teaching you strategies that you can use to understand course material. Example problems will be used to clarify course concepts, enabling you to develop the skills you need to complete homework independently. Tutors can also teach you how to edit and proofread your writing assignments.
A: With a few exceptions, each tutoring session can be either one half-hour or one hour long. You can schedule up to two 1-hour appointments per course each week, for a maximum of 4 appointments per week. If you feel you have additional tutoring needs, you are welcome to make an appointment to speak with the LARC Tutorial Coordinator.
A: Students are expected to have a printout of their assignment at the start of their session. This policy is in place so that you can record your assignment revisions. A printer is available for use in our Computer Lab; you will need to have money on your Tower Card in order to use the printer.
A: To protect the privacy and confidentiality of student records, LARC tutors and staff do not discuss the services that individual students receive at the Center. If you need to prove that you have met with a tutor, visit the LARC Front Desk Staff and request that an electronic attendance report be sent to you so that you can submit it to your professor.
A: LARC tutors only tutor courses taught at SJSU. We recommend that you check the support services offered at the learning center of your community college for assistance with that college's courses.
A: We do not refer tutors for services outside of their regularly scheduled hours at LARC. You can find a tutor by posting a request with the Career Center.
A: You must be a matriculated SJSU student to receive services at LARC. To locate a tutor for your son or daughter, you can post a job announcement on the SJSU Career Center website.
