
1. Take the WST test immediately after you have completed English 1B.
2. Check the SJSU Testing and Evaluation Departments' WST website for up to date information on purpose, cost, exemptions, registration deadlines, and test dates. The website also has the WST Information Bulletin online.
3. To familiarize yourself with the test format, take the two and one-half hour WST workshop offered at the Learning Assistance Resource Center (LARC). The workshop is usually held 1 to 2 weeks prior to the WST date.
4. Review the basic rules of grammar and usage found in any handbook of English.
5. Study Barron's reference book on "How To Prepare For The California State University Writing Proficiency Exams" available for purchase at the Spartan Bookstore.
6. Understand the WST Essay Scoring Guidelines.
7. If you have taken the WST without success, and have completed English 1A and 1B as well as LLD 98 or LLD 99, you may sign-up for the WST group tutorial at The Learning Assistance Resource Center.
Enrollment for the WST preparation tutorials will be on a first-come-first-served basis. Students must sign up at the LARC office (Student Services Center, SSC Room 600).
Remember, only students who have already failed the WST and have taken English 1A, 1B and LLD 98 or LLD 99 will be considered for the group tutorials.
