You do not need to purchase a custom product solely to satisfy Section 508 Standards.

If a product meets all of your requirements and specifications except for accessibility, and a Section 508 compliant version of the product is not available in the commercial marketplace, you can request an ATI exception.

To request a Commercial Unavailability exception, submit the following:

• E&IT Exceptions Documentation for Section 508 Compliance Form (pdf)
• E&IT Procurement Checklist
• Web Requisition

The Section 508 Compliance Specialist will work with you to determine if the E&IT product(s) qualify for an exception and will notify Purchasing, if approved.

If an exception is approved, it is important to note that by statutory obligations, you must still provide an Alternative Means of Access to persons with disabilities.
