Backorder

The status of items on a purchase order in the event that some or all of the inventory required to fulfill the order is out of stock.

Bid

A price quote submitted by a vendor.

Bid list

A list of vendors that provide a specific product or service. Buyers will use a bid list when requesting quotes or proposals. Our SJSU bid list is stored in the BidsOnline™ database.

Bill of Lading

A document accompanying a shipment and provided by the vendor that serves as a receipt for goods.

Blind shipment

A shipment made without being requested. Very often, vendors will blind ship complimentary items. Complimentary shipments are free.

Buyer

Any person who contracts to acquire an asset in return for some form of consideration. A buyer's primary responsibility is obtaining the highest quality goods at the lowest cost. This usually requires research, writing requests for bids, proposals or quotes, and evaluating information received.
