CyberAware Day 2022

The 2022 event covered the state of the cybersecurity industry and career perspectives in the cybersecurity sector.  2022 Theme was "Trend, technology and career opportunities in Cyber Security + SJSU related activites".

MCMitchel heads Trend Micro’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Initiative for Education.  To the CSR programs, he brings his passion to make the digital world safer, along with decades of industry experience and proven successes as a leader. Mitchel has been with Trend Micro since 2003, serving 11 years as Senior Vice President of Global Technical Support.
As part of the executive team, he was responsible for all customer support functions, developing an internationally recognized and award-winning support team.  He also served in various cybersecurity advisory boards for several nonprofit and government initiatives such as National Cybersecurity Alliance (NCSA), Cybercrime Support Network (CSN), and NIST NICE 2019 Conference.

 

tsDr. Tonia San Nicolas-Rocca received her Ph.D. in Information Systems and Technology from Claremont Graduate University located in Claremont, California.  Her research interests include cybersecurity, health information systems and knowledge management. Dr. San Nicolas-Rocca has published her work in numerous peer-reviewed research journals and conference proceedings.    

Dr. San Nicolas-Rocca has taught undergraduate and graduate level courses in computer information systems for over eighteen years.  In addition to teaching, Dr. San Nicolas-Rocca has more than six years of industry experience in the analysis, design, implementation, and strategic use of wide area networking systems and security within multinational organizations.

Dr. San Nicolas-Rocca is part of the SJSU interdisciplinary initiative in cybersecurity. She teaches cybersecurity and networking offered to SJSU iSchool graduate students.

 

Dr. Younghee Park is an Associate Professor in Computer Engineering at San Jose State University. Before joining this department in August 2013, Park was a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2013 and at Columbia University in New York City in 2011. Park received her Ph.D. in Computer Science from North Carolina State University in 2010. She worked at the National Security Research Institute at ETRI in Korea in 2003. She obtained an award of excellence as a distinguished faculty mentor for the SJSU Student Research Competition in 2017. She was selected for the Kordestani Endowed Chair in the College of Engineering in 2016 and 2017 as a distinguished research professor. She also received the Faculty Award for Excellence in Scholarship in the College of Engineering at SJSU in 2018. Park is President and Founder of SVCSI (Silicon Valley Cybersecurity Institute), a public non-profit organization. She was a visiting professor at IBM Almaden Research starting from July 2019 to August 2020 and she was Vice-chair of IEEE Computer Society, Santa Clara Valley Chapter for one year in 2021. Her primary research interests are in network and system security. Her research has been funded by many industries and the National Science Foundation (NSF).

2019 CyberAware Day was held on November 13, 2019 at SJSU Student Union. 

The 2019 event featured a panel of cybersecurity leaders representing various disciplines.  It ranges from multinational company to defense contractor to financial industry, from startup CEO to chief legal officer to security engineer.  The organizers and sponsors intended to share with SJSU students about the broad range of opportunities available in Cybersecurity.  

The CyberAware Day is a unique event hosted in partnership between UC Merced and San José State University to raise awareness around the cyber security sector and related opportunities for students of all backgroundsJoin an awesome line-up of speakers and industry experts who know first-hand that everybody belongs in security and hear their stories of how they found their way into cyber security. Students have an opportunity to also interact directly with like-minded companies who know the value of diversity.
