The Northern California chapter is the first SOPHE chapter, dating to 1950. The chapter offers continuing education programs, a job bank, an advocacy network, and the opportunity to meet other professionals who share similar health education goals.

San Jose State University students, faculty, and alumni have served in the chapter leadership. Drs. Roe and Perales are Past Presidents, and Dr. Mamary was Past Co-President with Mary Nacionales (MPH, 2000); Dr. Anne Demers was National SOPHE delegate; Blanca Campos (2001) was Co-President; and SJSU students and alumni serve in numerous other Board positions.

The current board is comprised of SJSU students and alumni: Robert Rinck (President), Renate Henry Olaisen (House of Delegate), Angelica Diaz (co-treasurer), Mory Chhom (co-treasurer), Phil Espejo, Adrian Espinosa, Pam Gudino, Elisa Hernandez (Outreach), Elizabeth Edwards (CHES chairperson), Jennifer Gacutan-Galang (Secretary), Alvin Galang Amado Burgos (newsletter /web chairs).
