Bio

Dr. Kathryn James Adduci is Associate Professor of Trumpet and Brass Area Coordinator at San José State University. She holds a BM from the University of Western Australia, an MM from the University of Georgia, and a DMA from the University of North Texas. Her primary trumpet instructors have included Keith Johnson, Fred Mills, Sean Priest, and Kevin Johnston.

Dr. Adduci has performed and taught throughout the world. She has appeared with numerous orchestras in Australia, including as a soloist with the highly regarded groups the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra and the West Australian Symphony Orchestra, as well as performing with professional orchestras in Malaysia, Canada, and the United States. She was a guest artist at the 2009 International Trumpet Guild Conference in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, and was a guest clinician and panel member at the 2010 International Trumpet Guild Conference in Sydney, Australia, where she performed with James Morrison and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. She has recorded a CD of trumpet and piano works called A Trumpet Kaleidoscope, and recently recorded a CD as the featured soloist on the baroque trumpet with the Baroque Chamber Orchestra of Colorado, to be released in late 2012. Her solo performances have been broadcast on Colorado Public Radio and on ABC Australia Radio.

Dr. Adduci is highly-regarded for her work with historical instruments. She has been described as “a rare treat…a highly skilled trumpeter” (Denver Post), her playing described as “flawless, elegant…delicate as that of a flute, yet with all the power and color of brass” (SanDiego.com). She has performed with numerous period instrument groups in North America, including the Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra, American Bach Soloists (San Francisco), Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra (Toronto), Apollo’s Fire (Cleveland), Portland Baroque Orchestra (Oregon), Musica Angelica (Los Angeles), Atlanta Baroque Orchestra (Georgia), Texas Camerata (Fort Worth), and the Orchestra of New Spain (Dallas). While at the University of North Texas, she taught the baroque and the modern trumpet, and was the director of the UNT Baroque Trumpet Ensemble. She can be heard on the soundtrack to the 2005 Disney movie Casanova, which was recorded on period instruments and topped the Billboard classical chart, and also on numerous recordings on the Klavier label, performing on modern trumpet with the UNT Wind Symphony under Eugene Migliaro Corporon.
