Discover México profundo with a two week FLP to Oaxaca, Mexico! This course is an opportunity for participants to learn about the history of Mexico from an Indigenous perspective and engage with Indigenous communities in struggle through home-stays in, and community visits to, several prominent Zapotec communities.

Participants will visit communities renowned for sustainable practices, cultural traditions, and unique crafts. While in Oaxaca city students will benefit from hands-on talleres, or workshops, at the Universidad de la Tierra, an Indigenous university that offers a diverse curriculum in urban agriculture, community-based media, alternative technologies, grassroots healthcare, and convivial research.

You will:

  • Cook & weave with members of a women's weaving cooperative
  • Participate in a hands-on workshop to prepare natural remedies
  • Learn to cook tamales and palanquetas
  • See how art & politics mix on graffiti & graphic art street tour
