Throughout the year GENERATE partners with various departments to host a variety of events for our students.
Residential Life Mixer
Geared toward first-generation college students that live on campus, this event is focused on familiarizing students with resources, connecting them with other first-generation students, and peer advice from other students who are the first in their family to attend college. In partnership with University Housing Services, this event includes games, food, and more.
Come Together! 5th annual Family, Friends, and First-Generation College Students Evening
This is a welcoming opportunity during Fall Welcome Days to enjoy good food, discuss
the college experience, and increase sources of support for academic success for those
who are first in their family to attend college. Bring your friends and family to enjoy a free dinner, meet SJSU faculty and staff,
and learn more about the campus.
First-Generation Scholarship Luncheon
This event is a celebration of first-generation college students, and consists of a presentation of scholarships, recognition of active members in the First-Generation Student Group, and presentation of the annual GENERATE Champion Award.
The First Connection
This is a brand new event in February 2016 is focused on providing first-generation students with the opportunity to network with SJSU’s first-generation faculty and staff, and build a community of support through discussing their college experiences, challenges they faced, and resources utilized to overcome the obstacles.
Finals Study Break Sessions
You've been studying hard for finals. Now it's time to rest your brain, take a break, and win free stuff! Come and learn stress relief techniques and study tips. Participate in games and activities to win prizes. All attendees will receive free testing materials and snacks. Free testing materials can be picked up in our center throughout the week, as available.
