Rayna completed a Ph.D. in Developmental Psychology at McMaster University, in the Auditory Development Lab, supervised by Dr. Laurel Trainor. There she studied how infants' brain development is influenced by the voices they hear. Throughout her time at McMaster Rayna attended many workshops on career and teaching development and grew passionate about teaching other students about the importance of honing their professional and academic development.

Rayna also completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship in higher education teaching and professional development at McMaster, where she worked with the School of Graduate Studies and the McMaster Institute for Innovation and Excellence in Teaching and Learning (MIIETL) to promote and deliver professional, academic, and teaching & learning development opportunities to undergraduate researchers, graduates and postdocs. 

Rayna moved to sunny California and has been lecturing for SJSU's ChAD department since January 2017. She teaches courses focusing on developmental psychology (Cognitive Development, Lifespan Development), as well as Research Methodology.
