While that didn't come to pass, after considering an offer to join the infr-red astronomy group, he decide to get what some refer to as "a real job". He spent 7 years in the technology industry workign for IBM as a systems enginere and then as a marketing representative. 1n 1990 he left Big Blue to complete an MBA at INSEAD in Fontainebleau, France. After working as a research associate at INSEAD for Professor's Chakravarthi and Rumelt he decided to get his PhD. His disseration and his early research was in the area of social netowrk processes. Simulation has been another strand in his research, building on the work of James G. March. More recently he has taken an active role in shared governance, serving on the San Jose Senate and several of its committees and now at the Statewide Academic Senate, where he is currently chair of the Academic Affairs committee, liaison to the CIO Council, to The Committe for Online Education and Academic Technology, and an ex-officio member of the General Education Advisory Committee.
