Master Practical Skills
This program provides students from diverse academic and professional backgrounds with the advanced education necessary to draw insights from real data and apply analytical skills to solve real-world problems. This program will prepare students to conduct high-volume data management, predictive analytics, and data visualization to solve real problems in their specialized career domains.
The current MSDA student cohort have backgrounds in business, engineering as well as computer, natural, health, social and human sciences from Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Illinois Urbana-Champaign, Iowa State, Michigan State, Penn State, Stanford, Oregon, Virginia Tech, Washington, UC (Davis, Los Angeles, Riverside, San Diego), CSU (East Bay, San Bernardino, San Jose), State University of Campinas (Brazil), Zhejiang University (China), India Institute of Technology (India), National Chiao Tung University (Taiwan), as well as other U.S. and international universities.
The program features an interdisciplinary curriculum that draws on insights from mathematics and statistics, computer science and software engineering, business management, health science, social science, and natural science. The curriculum was developed and is taught by industry experts from prominent Silicon Valley companies, and faculty from five of SJSU's colleges: the College of Business, the College of Engineering, the College of Professional and Global Education, the College of Health and Human Sciences and the College of Science.

With a Master of Science in Data Analytics degree from San José State University, you will be ready for this newly emerging field. You will utilize data and analytical models to inform both domain-specific and business decisions. You will also leverage data analysis and modeling techniques to solve problems and glean insight across functional domains. Imagine an exciting career as an Operations Analyst, Data Mining Analyst, Business Intelligence Analyst, Financial Analyst, Geographer/GIS specialist, Compensation/Benefits Analyst, or Chief Information Officer.
MSDA students take a Data Analytics Seminar (DATA 294) in their second semester at SJSU. Silicon Valley domain experts and industry leaders present case studies and propose industry project topics as part of this seminar. Students who are interested can connect with Silicon Valley experts and work on real-world master's degree projects (DATA 298A and 298B) over the following two semesters. Students may also have the opportunity to seek internships by connecting with Silicon Valley companies.
