History

In 2005, SJSU was a founding institutional partner in NSF's Team for Research in Ubiquitous Secure Technology (TRUST) Science and Technology Center. This partnership is made up of UC Berkeley, Stanford University, Carnegie Mellon University, Cornell University, Vanderbilt University and San José State University.

In 2013, the Committee on National Security Systems recognized SJSU as meeting the national training standard for Information Systems Security (INFOSEC) Professionals, NSTISSI No. 4011 and 4012..

The Silicon Valley Big Data and Cybersecurity Center was established in 2014 in response to the engagement priorities set by the university's president. Upon the Center's institution, Dr. Michael Parrish, Dean of the College of Science, was appointed as the Center Executive Director and Dr. Sigurd Medal, Chair of Computer Engineering Department, was appointed as the Center Director. Since August 2016, Dr. Lee Chang has assumed the responsibilities of both roles.
