Behavioral Science Students Take Job Fair by Storm

SJSU Archaeological Field School (July 20th-August 5th, 2016)
During summer 2016, Professor Marco Meniketti will lead a group of students who will
be excavating the ruins of a 19th century lumber mill at Nisene Marks State Park (Santa

Professor Emeritus Tom Layton's Film Wins CreaTV Award
Tom Layton (pictured here with Mabel Miyasaki) co-produced a film that recently won First Prize

Ana Pitchon - Assistant Professor
Ana Pitchon, the newest member of our department, interviews a commercial groundfish
fisherman in Morro Bay, California. She interviewed this fisherman as part of a project

A Message from the Department Chair
Welcome to the SJSU Department of Anthropology. Our department offers many options
for students seeking a unique educational experience. The skills and knowledge that
we provide are in high demand in Silicon Valley and beyond. We are committed to preparing
our students for exciting careers in public, private, and non-profit organizations.
We also provide students with one-on-one academic advising.
We offer undergraduate degrees in Anthropology, Behavioral Science, and Organizational
Studies. Our department emphasizes skills including ethnographic interviewing, data
analysis, and critical thinking. We are dedicated to helping students improve their
writing and research abilities--skills valued by companies, government agencies, and
non-profits. Each undergraduate major degree takes an interdisciplinary approach that
encourages students to be creative, to cooperate and collaborate with other people,
to work in teams, and to do hands-on problem solving.
Our cutting-edge Master's Degree in Applied Anthropology prepares students for careers
ranging from design anthropology to cultural resource management. We have embraced
a holistic and integrative approach emphasizing flexibility and creativity.
