The Value and Importance of Integrative Learning
"The University will be known for the value it places on the integration of liberal and professional education and theoretical and applied knowledge."
Excerpt from SJSU Vision 2010 Statement
Integrative learning broadens the mind by enabling learners to use new knowledge to build connections to existing knowledge, thus increasing the learning that takes place. SJSU students have many opportunities to build connections through the various learning opportunities on campus from their general education courses to ones in their major in addition to co-curricular experiences such as participation in clubs and discussion groups. Students need a learning environment that is integrative, broad (where learning takes place both in and out of the classroom), and that helps them develop and understand themselves. SJSU provides such a learning environment.
