The Center for Faculty Development maintains programs that support faculty teaching, scholarship and service throughout their career lifespan. New Faculty OrientationThe Center for Faculty Development offers a New Faculty Orientation Program. The orientation provides an opportunity to collaborate with new colleagues, an introduction to the university, an introduction to support services that are available, and tips for being a successful faculty member. Teacher ScholarsThis program is designed to provide a setting for mid-career faculty to engage in collegial and scholarly inquiry about issues relating to teaching and learning in higher education. Peer PartnersHave you ever wished you could engage in collegial discussions about teaching without it being part of RTP? Have you ever felt isolated in your own department? Have you ever wondered how other faculties handle specific classroom situations? These are some of the many issues that have stimulated collaborative discussions in the Peer Partners in teaching program. Educated Person DialogueWhat is the meaning of an Educated Person for students? What is our role as faculty? These are just a few of many questions discussed in the campus dialogue learning community founded in 2003. Course Design ProgramThe Course Design Program benefits faculty who are concerned with student learning outcomes and interested to transform their courses to enhance student learning effectiveness. Program offers development opportunities, instructional design consultation, and recognition. Carnegie Academy of the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (CASTL) ProgramSan Jose State University is participating in a research project with the Carnegie Academy of the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (CASTL).
