Teaching

The topics in this module are selected to mirror your pedagogical process of planning, implementing, and evaluating your student-centered teaching for the diverse campus of SJSU.

Syllabus Development

A syllabus is the blueprint for building your course architecture with student needs and learning outcomes that form the foundation. Resources include design guidelines and templates.

Assessment

Alignment of assessments with learning outcomes provides effective learning progress data for students and instructors. Resources include analyses of assessment tools and guidelines for determing the criteria.

Teaching Strategies

Outcome-based teaching strategies foster meaningful student learning experiences. Resources provide explorations to many strategies and activity designs.

Learning Materials

Integrating timely and contextual learning materials in courses enhances students' motivation to learn. Resources include partners to share learning materials or create your own.

Technology Tools for Learning and Teaching

Whiteboard or blackboard? As long as it benefits learning, it's a good board. Resources include a variety of technology for online and in class learning and teaching.

Student Retention

SJSU prioritizes student retention to ensure the attainment and graduation for all students. Resources include a variety of student services and first-year teaching experience.

Collegial Conversations

Numerous informal working groups convene to forge research partnerships with colleagues across and beyond campus. [COMING SOON]

Organized Research Unit

Numerous formal working groups have been established at SJSU, bringing faculty from across the campus together with various community partners.  

Internal Grants

The Offices of Undergraduate and Graduate Studies and the SJSU Research Foundation oversee several internal grant competitions, offering faculty opportunities to apply for release time, travel funds and other resources. [COMING SOON]

External Grants and Awards

The SJSU Research Foundation provides support to faculty as they seek to identify potential funders, as they develop proposals, and as they manage their grants, post-award. Research Foundation staff offer individual consultation and workshops on a wide variety of topics pertaining to research and scholarship.  For details, consult the Research Foundation website.

Human and Animal Subjects

The Office of Graduate Studies and Research provides the information, the guidance and the forms you will need to secure permission to conduct or oversee research involving human subjects or animals.

The Office of Faculty Affairs has compiled a Handbook bringing together in one place all of the university policies and practices pertaining to work-life balance.

Family Matters

With the generous support of an ACE-Sloan Faculty Career Flexibility award, SJSU compiled the Family Matters web-site, designed to help members of the university community locate resources and information pertaining to a variety of “family” topics.

Career Planning Retreats
