Mark Novak, PhD
AVP/Dean, College of International & Extended Studies

Dr. Mark Novak is Associate Vice-President for the College of International and Extended Studies at San Jose State University (SJSU).  Dr. Novak has held this position since 1996.  He oversees International Gateways  (the SJSU ESL program), Study Abroad programs, International House, International Recruitment, Professional Development programs, Open University and Special Off-Campus programs (e.g. the off-campus MBA)

Dr. Novak received his Bachelor's degree in Sociology from Rutgers University in New Jersey and his Ph.D. degree in Sociology from York University in Toronto.  He specializes in the study of adult development, adult education, and aging.  Dr. Novak has written many articles for professional journals here and abroad.  He has written several books including a general interest study entitled, Successful Aging and several texts in the field of gerontology. 

Dr. Novak has supervised university international and professional development programs for the past 20 years both in Canada and the United States.

Dr. Novak has served on the board of the San Jose Jazz Society and currently serves on the board of the Silicon Valley Workforce Investment Network.

Steve Zlotolow, PhD
Associate Dean, College of International & Extended Studies

Dr. Steve Zlotolow is currently the Associate Dean at the College of International & Extended Studies and oversees all the Special Session programs at San José State University.  He received his Doctor of Philosophy at the University of Oklahoma Norman Campus in 1989.  Dr. Zlotolow is a pioneer in online learning. He developed the first fully online degree program, Master's in Occupational Therapy, more than fifteen years ago. Aside from his background in Instructional Design as related to eLearning, Dr. Zlotolow developed the eCampus at SJSU and provided a mediated track to delivering instruction for faculty.
