Why San José State University?

The University
San José State University, located in the heart of Silicon Valley, offers students the excitement of studying at a large metropolitan campus where many cultures meet. Through our eight colleges, our graduate students can choose from over seventy graduate programs. Silicon Valley firms and agencies seek SJSU students for internships, summer work programs and for assistance with research and development projects.

San José State University was the first public institution of higher education on the West Coast, and since then our mission has been clear: To enrich the lives of our students, to transmit the knowledge and skills necessary to allow our students to contribute productively to society. Since it was founded in 1857, the university has grown to over 29,000 students and has become the largest source of engineering, science and business graduates for the world's most exciting technology center.

San José State is part of the 23-campus California State University system, which allows us to provide an excellent educational experience with a very reasonable yearly tuition. When you compare the costs with the quality of education we provide our students, there aren't many other universities in the area that can offer a similar value.

The Location
From serving as the first state capital of California to becoming the Capital of Silicon Valley, San José has distinguished itself as a city with a pioneering past and enterprising future. Our Mediterranean climate has an average temperature of 60 degrees Fahrenheit (15.5 degrees Celsius) and an average of 300 days of sunshine per year.

Located on 154 acres in downtown San José, the campus is surrounded by a newly revitalized city which hosts major events and concerts. The city is also home to several art museums and great restaurants serving a wide variety of cuisines.

On campus, there are more than 50 major buildings (including 23 academic buildings and seven residence halls) covering 19 city blocks. Just off-campus is our 62-acre facility, which houses our athletic fields, Spartan Stadium and the Spartan Village housing complex. In the middle of campus is the Event Center which hosts sporting events and is a popular venue for concerts when artists come through the area.
