A Note for Faculty Involved in Thesis Review

You play a vital role in the graduation process of the students within your department, and you have the power to make the thesis review process run smoothly. Graduate students depend upon your knowledge of university requirements, procedures, and deadlines in order to navigate through the thesis submittal process.

Many graduate students approach thesis review with anxiety: it is the culmination of a long and frequently arduous academic journey. The last step of submitting a thesis to Graduate Studies and Research often follows the stress of a final oral defense, a long series of revisions, conflicts with advisors and committee members, and also numerous personal stresses. Through your knowledge, expertise, and willingness to help, you can help students through the final steps of completing an advanced degree.

We hope that the materials offered on this website and in the SJSU Thesis Guidelines (pdf) will assist you with your review of graduate theses. If you still have questions and concerns, please contact Alena Filip, Thesis Coordinator in the Office of Graduate Studies and Research, 408-924-2479.
