Submitting Your Thesis for Binding

Once your thesis has been approved and any requested corrections have been made, you will need to submit a mandatory copy of your thesis for binding to the Office of Graduate Studies and Research by the binding deadline.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT:

San Jose State University is in the process of transitioning to a paperless system for accepting the final version of SJSU master’s theses approved by the Office of Graduate Studies and Research. GS&R will continue to review a paper version of each thesis submitted by the posted deadline in order to determine whether each thesis meets University standards. The following changes apply to the last stage of the thesis review process:

As of Fall 2009, the MLK Library will no longer be processing three copies of the thesis for binding.  For Fall 2009 students are instructed to submit one paper copy of the final thesis after it has been approved by Graduate Studies and Research along with the forms and payments outlined on the thesis binding checklist below. GS&R will forward the final copy to the library for binding.

In Spring 2010, the final version of the thesis approved by GS&R will be submitted electronically. Please check this website in late January 2010 for updated guidelines, forms, instructions, and a link to the electronic thesis administrator.

A bound paper version of the thesis will no longer be provided to departments. Full text versions of the thesis will be available through the external publisher, ProQuest, as well as through the MLK Library's online electronic repository.

It is important that students and faculty check this website each semester for the latest instructions and guidelines, as failure to submit the thesis as instructed may result in a delay in graduation.

The Thesis Binding Checklist (pdf) for Fall 2009 that will be provided with your approved thesis and on this website includes detailed instructions on how to organize your final copy as well as information on the forms, payments, and supplementary material that must be submitted with your final copy. The relevant pages indicated in the ProQuest/UMI Publishing Agreement (pdf) must be included with the mandatory copy that is submitted for binding.

Attention to detail is paramount, especially during this final stage of the thesis review process. The final copy represents the official record of your culminating experience work at SJSU.  The thesis will be made available to the public through the MLK Library and ProQuest Information and Learning, the external publisher of your thesis.

Graduate Studies and Research will notify Graduate Admissions and Program Evaluations that you have completed the thesis requirement once the final version of your thesis and all supporting documents/payments have been received, and the requested corrections have been verified. The final version of the thesis must be submitted in the manner described on the Thesis Binding Checklist.
