Test Requirements

English Language Proficiency Exam:

An English Language Proficiency Exam (TOEFL, Academic IELTS, or Academic PTE) is required by the university for applicants who do not have a degree in the U.S. (see Step 5 Want to Apply).  Minimum scores are listed below.

Graduate Record Exam (GRE) Preparation

While there are numerous reputable companies that specialize in aiding prospective graduate students in their preparation for the GRE, we recognize that choosing the best among them can be challenging.  This analysis highlights the best aspects of seven of the highest rated GRE preparation course companies.

Programs that Require the GRE:

Aerospace Engineering

 

GRE required if undergraduate degree is not from an accredited U.S./Canadian university.

Combined score in Verbal and Quantitative must be equal to greater than 312, and Analytical Writing Score must be 3.5 or above.

Biomedical Engineering

GRE only required for applicants whose major GPA is less than 3.0.

Combined score in Verbal and Quantitative must be equal to or be higher than 315, and Analytical Writing Score must be 3.5 or above.

Biotechnology

All students must take the GRE General Test for admission to the Masters of Biotechnology program. International students will need to take either the TOEFL or IELTS test in addition to the GRE.

Child and Adolescent Development

GRE General test required.

Computer Engineering

GRE scores are used by the MS-CMPE program as an evaluation factor, on a competitive basis. They are required of all international and domestic applicants with bachelor’s GPAs beneath 3.2.  Those with five or more years of direct experience in programming and coding through employment may request a waiver of the GRE. The absolute cutoff for acceptance for the sum of the quantitative and verbal portions is 300, although higher scores may be required in some semesters, depending on the strength of the applicant pool. The minimum GRE writing score is 3.0 except where high English-language proficiency test scores have been obtained.

Electrical Engineering

There are no hard cut-offs on the general GRE scores but the scores will be used along with applicant’s degree and GPA to rank the candidates for admissions.

Journalism and Mass Communications

 

Combined minimum score of 297 and at least a score of 156 on the verbal section required.

 

Kinesiology

GRE General test required.

Minimum scores: 150 - verbal; 141 - quantitative

 

Mechanical Engineering

 

Only required if undergraduate degree is not from an accredited U.S./Canadian university.

Combined score in Verbal and Quantitative must be equal or greater than 310, and Analytical Writing Score must be 3.0 or above.

 

Meteorology

GRE General test required.
 

Nutritional Science

 

Combined minimum GRE score of 297, minimum GRE verbal score of 150, and minimum writing score of 3.5.

Occupational Therapy

Combined minimum GRE score of 297, minimum GRE verbal score of 153, and minimum writing score of 4.5 is desired. As an alternative to the GRE exam, a minimum score of 400 or above on the Miller Analogies Test (MAT) is required.

Psychology (Experimental)

Public Health

Combined minimum score of 297 required.
